England are looking to maintain their one-day momentum ahead of the upcoming World Cup that will see the English team take on Sri Lanka in the first of a five-match ODI series.
Sri Lanka are expected to provide plenty of competition in the three-Test series that begins soon, and it will be England’s first in 12 years that won’t be lead by opening legend Alastair Cook. The world number 1 ranked 50-over side, England are currently the favourite despite their poor performance on the island in the past.
The team managed a 50-over world record score of 481 against Australia at Trent Bridge, with Alex Hales earning 147, and Jonny Bairstow 139. ODI Captain Eoin Morgan has told reporters that it had taken the team three and a half years to get in the position they’re in at the moment, and that they’re close to getting to the point where they want to be.
Sri Lanka struggles were continued after captain Angelo Mathews from axed from the team. They’ve suffered a total of 30 losses in their last 40 ODIs, which includes losing to Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the 2018 Asia Cup.
Their newest captain, Dinesh Chandimal, who was forced to miss the Asia Cup and the following ODI series due to injury struck 77 at the practise match against England in Colombo. The team hopes that they will be able to earn one ODI win against England, which may be possible considering England track record on the island.
