IPL Announces Quarantine Rules For 2022

March 7, 2022 by

The Indian Premier League on Thursday revealed its quarantine protocol to franchises for the upcoming tournament.

Players will reportedly be expected to spend three days in hard quarantine in their hotel rooms before entering the IPL bubble. A negative test will also have to be returned on the fourth day for final clearance.

Tests will also be performed all throughout the 3-day period, tournament organisers have said. These will be done 24 hours apart, and participants will furthermore be expected to undergo daily tests for a total of six days.

The only exception to the quarantine rule will be for those players and staff entering the IPL bubble directly from another bubble. Included in this provision will be preparatory camps, national camps, domestic tournaments, and bilateral series, organisers have said. In order to qualify for this exception, commuters will have to travel either by charter flight or by road.

A large number of players are expected to join the IPL bubble directly from other bio-bubbled series, including Australia’s tour of Pakistan, India’s tour of Sri Lanka, England’s tour of the West Indies, and Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa.

In an event where a player has for whatever reason broken out from a previous bubble, such player will still have to pass through the 3-day quarantine and testing period, the IPL has said.

Teams are now in full mode for entering their own bubbles as preparation camps commence. Most camps will be held in Mumbai, where most of the league games of this year’s competition will be played.
