Cricket clubs across New Zealand may finally be able to take a deep breath in in the wake of the lockdown to contain the novel coronavirus COVID-19. A fund is being made available by ANZ Bank New Zealand to help them recover from the enforced hiatus.
David White, Chief Executive Officer for NZ Cricket, called the ANZ Good Sports Grant, which has pledged NZ$1 million to support the comeback of grassroots Cricket and Netball, hugely generous. He said this much-need offer of support will serve as a hefty shot in the arm for community games. White added that this format is a priority for his organisation and that this open-handedness will make a massive difference to clubs and their cricketers countrywide.
White continued, saying that it’s hard to overstate the point that grassroots games represent the lifeblood of the gentlemen’s game and its good health is critical to the future of the sport. He said that this includes the sport at all levels, including that of the White Ferns and the Black Caps.
White said that ANZ Bank NZ has long been a huge supporter of sports in general and Cricket in particular, and the latest programme has simply emphasised their munificence. He says it will go a long way towards ensuring that local teams and up-and-coming players can get back out onto the field in the 2020-21 season.
He ended by saying that CNZ is profoundly grateful for this assistance. He stated that everyone is aware of how tough it’s been for clubs and families, and this money will make an immediate and noteworthy difference.
