While star all-rounder Ben Stokes has now undergone a second operation on his injured finger, he’s unlikely to compete for England in the upcoming Ashes tour. Stokes first fractured his left index finger during the 1st leg of the Indian Premier League in April.
While Stokes made an initial comeback in July for captaining England against Pakistan, he experienced a great deal of pain which required several injections. He shortly after England’s 3-0 ODI victory against Pakistan admitted to struggling with issues not only on the field, but also away from it. This ultimately prompted England to exclude the New Zealand-born all-rounder for the remainder of the summer – including this year’s T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE.
According to a local British newspaper, this week’s operation involved the removal of screws and scar tissue form the injured finger. But while the operation was determined a huge success, England has reportedly decided to allow Stokes sufficient time for working through his personal issues. This situation has sparked interest in sports betting NZ, as fans speculate on England’s performance without Stokes.
But Stokes’ anticipated absence isn’t the only uncertainty plaguing England right now. Scheduled for Friday evening is a meeting by the England and Wales Cricket Board for deciding the final logistics for the upcoming Ashes tour.
