One of New Zealand’s more popular hot spots is set to become the country’s latest test venue later this year in November when Bay Oval at Mt. Maunganui hosts their first game against the English team as was confirmed by New Zealand Cricket.
Joe Root’s squad will be playing two test matches that will be held in New Zealand, with the second being played at Seddon Park in Hamilton. This is after England’s limited overs side face the Black Caps in five Twenty20 international games.
Bay Oval will be New Zealand’s ninth test cricket venue according to NZC chief executive David White who has recently announced the event schedule, which also includes a full tour by India during the early months of next year. Talking about the new venue, White told reporters that they are thrilled for those involved in securing Bay Oval as the country’s ninth test venue, and that a lot of people have worked hard for the recognition and that he hopes the venue will continue to go from strength to strength.
Bay Oval has been host to nine one day internationals since the 2015 season along with six T20 internationals since 2016, which is New Zealand’s summer holiday that sees thousands drive out to the area’s beaches.
India is set to play five Twenty30s and three one day internationals along with tests in both Christchurch and Wellington from the end of January to the beginning of March next year.
