The National Football League will be reducing the preseason form four games once the new mutual agreement talks take place. But the League and the Players’ Association are also talking about cutting the preseason one year early, for this year’s upcoming season. Tom Pelissero, reporter for the NFL network and site, has revealed that several team executives have been told that it may be two games instead of four in 2020.
A shorter season will permit a lengthier ramp-up period for the squads, even if players have to report to training camp a couple of weeks early. With an extra fortnight to develop protocols for game day in the wake of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the League would benefit from a condensed preseason.
CBS Sports’ Senior NFL reporter and insider Jonathan Jones announced earlier on this week that the Hall of Fame game is still set to unfold, with fans in attendance, on August the 6th. The game is sold out, with 20 000 tickets purchased, but this game can be pushed if the preseason gets reduced. The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony can also take place a few weeks later.
They’re shortening the preseason next year because the League has just added a 17th match to the regular season. Quads are now going to play three preseason games instead of four, with the fourth week becoming a bye. If both sides approve of the cut, we’ll get a glimpse of the shorter preseason soon, a direct result of a highly irregular offseason.
