Its official: the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have signed uncapped Afghan leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed as a net bowler for this year’s Indian Premier League competition.
The 18-year-old spinner confirmed the news on social media on Monday. Naveed was a member of Afghanistan’s U-19 World Cup squad for 2022.
The youngster had put on an impressive performance during the tournament from four wickets taken in six games. The fact that he’ll now get to bowl against cricket players like Virat Kohli, Glen Maxwell, and South Africa’s Faf du Plessis promises to be an incredibly valuable learning opportunity for the up-and-coming young player.
What’s more, this is precisely the sort of opportunity that could see Naveed securing an IPL deal in coming years.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to don an exciting new look this season. Following the stepping down of Virat Kohli at the end of last season, Faf du Plessis will captain the team as they head into the latest edition of the cash-rich tournament.
With RCB still in search of their maiden IPL title, du Plessis will undoubtedly have his work cut out for him. But with the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Dinesh Karthik by his side, du Plessis has all the help in the world needed to make 2022 count in big ways for his team.
Following the recent expansion of the competition, this year’s IPL will feature 10 teams instead of 8. The 2022 edition of the event is scheduled to get underway on March 26. This new lineup has generated significant excitement, with sports betting enthusiasts eagerly placing their wagers on the potential outcomes of the matches.
