Dutch Formula One driver and F1 title contender Max Verstappen says he couldn’t be bothered less about how and who British rival Lewis Hamilton is, and that the only thing he cares about right now is getting into a great car every weekend before fighting for the win.
The Dutchman seemed everything but impressed by Hamilton’s comments about him before the weekend’s Russian Grand Prix. Hamilton’s had appeared to suggest that Verstappen was starting to feel the pressure of his maiden Formula One world championship fight, which was met by only deadpan sarcasm by the Red Bull driver.
The tension between the two men is undoubtedly largely down to the closely contested fight for the title, with Verstappen leading the race by 5 points. Also not helping the situation is the recent collision between the two at Monza, for which Verstappen has been ruled has having been largely to blame.
Hamilton earlier on suggested that Verstappen appears to be experiencing the same pressure as what he himself had to live through during his own first title fight in 2007 at the age of only 22. Verstappen, who turns 23 this year, is now for the first time in the mix to win a maiden F1 title. According to Hamilton, he could clearly see the same inexperience he himself had felt all those years ago shine through in an inexperienced Verstappen as the two fought wheel-to-wheel.
Hamilton suggested that Verstappen’s current situation mirrors his own early career experiences, noting the pressure and inexperience that come with a first championship fight. However, Verstappen has countered these claims by stating that Hamilton does not truly understand him, emphasizing that his focus remains on the excitement of competing rather than any perceived pressure.
This intense rivalry and the ongoing verbal sparring between Verstappen and Hamilton add another layer of intrigue for fans and bettors alike, particularly those involved in online betting and racing betting. As the championship battle heats up, the performances and interactions of these two drivers will be closely watched, with potential implications for betting odds and outcomes in the races ahead.
