The 2017 ATP Tour Kicks Off With A Bang

The ATP world tour this year is really hotting up to be another fantastic series. The first week of February sees three fantastic events lined up for tennis fans.

The Ecuador Open, The Sofia Open and the Sud De French all play out in February. Recently the Ecuador Open announced their list of players for this year’s event, starting on the 4th of February. This will be the 3rd year that the event is held in Ecuador.

Top Tennis Players

Ivo Karlovic will be a player to watch this year. At 37 he was the oldest player in 96 years to take part in the Davis Cup singles matches. Alber Ramos Vinolas from Spain and Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil are also featuring in this year’s Open.

The list of participants for this year’s Sofia Open has also been revealed.  Starting on the 5th of February, the Sofia Open will be hosted at the Arena Armeec in Bulgaria. With 21 players, 3 wild cards and four qualification spots, this year’s open has 11 of the Top 50 players in the world.

Big names who will appear include David Goffin, ranked 11th, Daminic Thiem ranked 8th, Roberto Agut ranked 14th. Grigor Dimitrov ranked 17th and many others.

This year will also be the first showing of former top ten tennis players, Marcos Baghdatis and Nicolas Almagro.

In the Sud De France this year’s player line up has also been revealed. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Jeremy Chardy, and Benoît Paire, Gilles Simon and Pierre-Hugues Herbert have all confirmed their attendance.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is set to make a comeback at the Sud De France. Defending champion, Richard Gasquet, will join him.

Gasquet was originally not taking part in the Open as it is just after his Davis Cup performance in Japan, but the tournament director Sevastien Grosjean convinced the star to return and defend his title.

Last year the doubles title was taken by the Polish team of Łukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski, who will also be returning to defend their titles.

Stage Set for an Exciting Tournament

The Sud De France is also a hard court event starting on the 6th of February. It features 28 players for singles competition along with 16 doubles teams.

Tennis fans are in for a very exciting opening week of the ATP tour. The first three hard court opens always provide great tennis action with some of the best players in the world.
