New Zealand Triumphs at Hamilton Sevens

February 3, 2020 by

The Kiwis captured both the Men’s and Women’s Titles in the recent World Seven Series’ Hamilton round. This is a repeat of the double success they enjoyed at the previous tournament held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The men produced a decided victory of 2705 over France, claiming their first home contest in four years at the same time, and the women scored their third consecutive tournament win when they thrashed Canada, with a final score of 24-7.

Tim Mikkelson, Co-Captain for the men, has said that it’s important for morale for the players to improve their record at home. He said that the athletes have not done that well in recent years, and everyone owed a little something to fans and families. He described the men as having a clinical approach and said that those who came on to the field at the end of the game finish what their teammates had started, allowing them to come away with the victory.

Scott Curry put his team on the board when he scored a try during the game’s second minute against France when Tavite Veredamu, their dangerman, was cooling his heels in the Sin Bin. No sooner was he back on the field when he scored the only try the French team managed. Regan Ware scored NZ’s second try right at the half-time mark when the French were once more down a man when Captain Jonathan Laugel got a yellow card. Ware and Curry then scored twice more each in the second half.
