Warriors player Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is making an enormous sacrifice to stay with the team as they relocate to Queensland to continue competing in the NRL. He will be missing the birth of his child as a result of the move brought on by the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the Greater Sydney Area.
The 25-year-old player and his partner are expecting their third child in the next few weeks, but due to the outbreak and NRL competition, he will be relocating to continue playing.
Making sacrifices like this has become a huge part of the rugby world since the COVID-19 pandemic first took over the world. Players have had to leave families behind as they relocate for the sake of the game. Stints in isolation as a result of travelling have also become a regular occurrence in recent times.
Head coach Nathan Brown admits that there was a chance that Watene-Zelezniak would stay behind. Watene-Zelezniak has since made the decision to join his team, and even though the baby is due in a few weeks, the isolation that would be imposed would wreak havoc if he were to try and travel between the two locations. The team supports his decision and had not expected him to come. Regardless of what he would have done, the team would have supported his decision either way.
The New Zealand betting scene is keeping a close eye on these developments, as player relocations and personal sacrifices can significantly influence game outcomes and betting odds. Halfback Kodi Nikorima is another father to be in the team, however, his partner is looking into joining him in Queensland and will give birth there.
