Joshua Denies Talk Of Usyk Opt-Out Deal

January 26, 2022 by

Boxer Anthony Joshua has denied rumours suggesting he had agreed to a £15 million deal in an effort to avoid a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

According to reports, Joshua had been in support of Usyk fighting Tyson Fury for the heavyweight title instead.

Commenting via a video recently posted on Twitter, Joshua said what maddened him the most was seeing quotes from supposed interviews that had never even happened. He said he wanted to make it clear that no contract for avoiding any fight had been signed by him.

Joshua in September forfeited his heavyweight world titles to Usyk purely on points. Fury, meanwhile, reigned victorious over Deontay Wilder when he successfully defended his WBC Crown the month after.

New Zealand sports betting markets have been abuzz with speculation over these high-profile boxing matches.

According to another report, Fury’s promoters have been pushing for mandatory WBC belt challenger Dillian Whyte to step aside from that particular fight. Promotors Frank Warren and Bob Arum are reportedly also currently holding talks with Joshua and team.

While on social media, Joshua insisted that he was able to make his own decisions and that this was because he was smart and in control of his destiny. He said fans should not be listening to rumours and outside sources.

According to a report by a prominent British newspaper, however, Joshua had been close to accepting the avoid-deal, which would have cleared the way for Fury to fight Usyk in a massive undisputed bout in April.

To date, negotiations between Joshua and Usyk have proved mostly problematic, significantly influencing boxing betting odds.
