Round 2 Six Nations Rugby Recap

Round 2 of the Six Nations Rugby Championships delivered more than its fair share of action and drama. In the men’s competition, it was Italy who was in action first taking on the Irish at home. Ireland were riding high from their narrow first round win against France, and with the home crowd behind them, they overpowered the Italians to rack up 56 points compared to Italy’s 19.

England was up next, taking on Wales in at Twickenham. Despite being a low scoring game, the English were bolstered by their fans to scrape through with 12 points to Wales 6. It was not a the most exciting of games but it was hard fought and England prevailed to pick up their second win after a first-round victory over Italy.

Scotland Overpower the French

The final game of round 2 was perhaps the most exciting. France travelled to Murrayfield to take on the Scots. On paper France were the stronger side but thanks to Greig Laidlaw and his epic kicking game, Scotland prevailed, much to the delight of thousands of screaming fans. 22 points came of Laidlaw’s boot as the Scotland pipped the visitor’s 32 points to 26.

In the women’s competition, the results were mostly the same except for France who triumphed over Scotland. The match of Round 2 saw the Welsh women travel to Twickenham. The game couldn’t have been more different from the men’s in that it was both a high and low scoring game. England dominated the Welsh scoring an unanswered 52 points. The Welsh could not manage a single penalty or consolation try.

For the second match, the French women travel to Glasgow to take on Scotland in their own back yard. Unlike the men, the Scottish women were no match for their opponents who ran circles around them. After 90 minutes of play, France has scored a few tries and racked up 26 points. In response Scotland only picked up a single penalty to make the final score 26-3.

Irish Women Repair Some of the Damage

The final match of round 2 saw Italy take on Ireland at home. In round 1, Ireland were not able to score a single point against the French. Having a point to prove, the Irish woman got the crowd behind them and pulled off a sensation win of 21 points to Italy’s 8. Round 3 of the Six Nations kicks off on the 23rd of Feb and is set to be another action-packed weekend.
